Modalities

-
Narrative therapy: A model based on one's own narrative. Everyone has their own social construct as to how they see the world. Even siblings can feel like their parents raised them differently even though they grew up together in the same household. Each child may have witness different things in the household the other child didn't witness. Each child may have entered the family dynamics at different significant timelines (the parents may have financially struggled earlier as a young couple with their first born, by the time the second sibling was born they were well to do).
-
Solution brief focused therapy (SBFT): Is an evidence-based model that can be defined as 'you are the expert of your own life.' As a therapist, we are supportive guidance to the client's needs. It is a therapy that focuses on the 'here and now.' Along with finding solutions, it's a therapy that relies on the strengths and resources the client already possesses.
-
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Looks at the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT primarily targets negative thought patterns to change behaviors
-
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Teaches people how to live in the moment, cope with stress, improve emotional regulation, and work on interpersonal relationships. DBT emphasizes emotional acceptance and coping mechanisms.

What to expect
Examining external factors to our mental health is equally as important as our internal factors. Therefore exploring both ends of the spectrum is key when working with individual clients. Circular causality looks into the many different ways an open or closed system (e.g. work life, family life, marriage) is out of balance rather than look at a problem linearly with only cause or effect as its model. With systems theory an important concept is the sum is greater than its parts. As an example, the human body has several systems (nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system). All of these systems interconnect to make the human body (the wonderful person that is you!) One part alone however doesn't make a human. You need all of these parts in its totality to function as a whole just as a puzzle needs all its pieces to create something beautiful. If one part of the system is sick, the whole body inevitable becomes negatively impacted. There's something to be said for the expression, "You're only as strong as your weakest link." As a therapist, I implement systems theory to fully examine your individual needs.

Education and Training
As a Wisconsinite, I graduated from the University of Green Bay, Wisconsin where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. I received my Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from North Central University where I specialize in trauma therapy. As a therapist in the field, I have worked with many different cliental.
Working with state & local government agencies, I've worked with youths through the Wraparound program for several counties in central Wisconsin. The program is designed to help families who have children with emotional and/or behavioral challenges. I've also worked with an outpatient AODA rehabilitation center where a lot of the work as a therapist is done collaboratively with probational officers, courts and most importantly the clients. While there, I presided over the substance abuse group. I have worked extensively with individuals who have exhibited a wide range of concerns including LGBQTIA+, incest, TBI injuries, and attachment issues to name a few. Above and beyond everything else, my clients well-being is my number one priority.

Between Sessions
Outside of sessions, I am honored to watch my children grow into the wonderful humans they are. I like to spend my time traveling, drawing, painting, and writing. I'm highly invested in learning a language or two (sooner than later). The goal is to surprise my mother and speak to her in her native language of Tagalog (aside from her pride, believe me when I say it'll be a hilarious moment purely off her reaction).
